Synopsis“Jungle Red” is about the nostalgia for paradise.
It is fictional, a flock of birds searching for Simurgh, the king of the birds – a hybrid creature, a phoenix, male, female, other. As Jorge Luís Borges says, “a being made up of other beings, a bird made of birds”. It´s about the desire for a world of plenty. It is an idyllic jungle, a supreme garden where everything exists in harmony. In Sanskrit, the word paradesha/paradise means supreme world. This project explores the different dimensions of utopia, paradigms of Edenic places or states, and we see Paradise as a metaphor for the aspiration to common well-being between humans (and humans), animals and nature, and insists on the idea that, in demanding this Edenic state, there is the possibility of understanding all the dysfunction in the world. On this journey to the beginning of everything, we compile ethnographies of an imagined past – personal, historic and fictional – we destroy and build visions for our future paradises.
